This is a beautiful black Japanese display shelf.
The wood is oak.
Oak has long been used for luxury furniture in Japan.
The design is very simple, with nothing underneath so that the storage section with sliding doors floats in the air.
In Japan, it has mainly been used to display artworks in spaces such as tea rooms and tokonoma alcoves.
The large space at the bottom enhances the "items" displayed.
It was made in the Showa era.
