Designed by Isamu Kenmochi, one of the most influential figures in postwar Japanese design, this vintage lounge sofa embodies a unique dialogue between Scandinavian modernism and Japanese aesthetics.
During the 1950s and 1960s, Japanese designers looked to the Nordic countries for inspiration, embracing their emphasis on functionality, craftsmanship, and human-centered design. Kenmochi was among the pioneers who absorbed these ideas and translated them into forms suited to Japanese living environments.
This sofa beautifully reflects that approach. Its low-slung proportions, refined structure, and understated elegance evoke the warmth and simplicity of Scandinavian furniture, while the rhythmic arrangement of wooden slats recalls the architectural language of traditional Japanese joinery and latticework.

The sofa remains in largely original condition. Please note that one of the chairs is missing a single support strap beneath the seat cushion, while the remainder of the upholstery, frame, and construction retain their original character.
