Pierre Chapo is a French designer known for his finely made wooden furniture. Born in 1927 in the suburbs of Clamart, Chapo comes from a line of craftsmen. In 1958, he graduated in Industrial Design at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and opened a studio in Clamart and Paris. The furniture of Charlotte Perriand, namely metal parts and small quantities of wood, is her main source of inspiration. However, Chapo is interested only in interior decorations made exclusively of wood. He later moved to Gordes in France, founded the Chapo Society and gave a series of lectures about woodworking in his studio. He died in 1987 in Gordes, France.
